Welfare Party of India criticise amending Land Acquisition Act

New Delhi: 30th December, 2014.Welfare Party of India strongly objected to the ordinance issued by the union BJP government to water down the Land Acquisition Act, 2013. Welfare Party national general secretary P.C. Hamza in a statement said the Act was brought as a result of intense struggle across the country against land acquisitions and public opinion by civil movements alongwith the consensus reached between opposition and state governments.
“Diluting the Act by an ordinance within a week of the closure of winter session of Parliament, even before implementing it in true sense and getting feedback of “procedure problems” if any, it seems the BJP government is led and run for corporate.

Watering down the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 will bring in forceful acquisition of land/excess land and forceful eviction of farmers from their lands leading to further resistance and conflicts. Doing away with the provisions of consent and social impact assessment of the 2013 Act even for private hospitals, educational institutions, hotels by the new ordinance will open Pandora box with leaving everything to the mercy of powerful private players. We strongly demand  immediate roll back of the ordinance and also urge all political parties, civil movements to forge forceful resistance against the ordinance.”Welfare Party of India continued in the statement.
